Bill Caption

Relating to the annexation of certain territory by the Wise County Water Control and Improvement District No. 1.

Fiscal Notes

No fiscal implication to the State is anticipated.

Bill Analysis

Under current law a Water Control and Improvement District may annex land to a district via a petition requiring the signatures of only 50 people. HB 1235, if passed, would allow the board of the Wise County Water Control and Improvement District No. 1 to hold an election for the purpose of authorizing the annexation of all parts of Wise County which are currently not within district boundaries and are not within the boundaries of another water control district.

Vote Recommendation Notes

This legislation, by putting the question of annexation to all the registered voters of Wise County instead of only 50 petition signers, would promote limited government, individual liberty, and property rights. We support HB 1235.

The second chamber sponsor of HB 1235 is Senator Estes.
