Bill Caption

Relating to the authority with whom certain political committees must file reports of political contributions and expenditures.

Fiscal Notes

No significant fiscal implication to the State is anticipated.

Bill Analysis

This legislation would require specific-purpose committee created to support or oppose a measure on the issuance of bonds by a school district to file reports with the Texas Ethics commission.

Vote Recommendation Notes

We support this legislation under the personal responsibility principle. This bill would require school bond special-purpose committees to file financial disclosure forms with the Texas Ethics Commission, instead of the school district itself. This will allow reports can be published sooner and be made more readily available for review by voters, and allows the school district to comply with their responsibility to provide the financial disclosure forms without the issue of complying with records requests due to being filed exclusively with the school district, instead of the TEC, which this bill will remedy.
