Bill Analysis

Summary: SB 68 would require county medical examiners, or in counties without such medical examiners, justices of the peace, to develop and maintain a written policy for requesting a written waiver of the 48 hour waiting period currently required before cremation. This is to accommodate religious views of people wishing to cremate loved ones as quickly as possible.

Analysis: We support SB 68 because it enhances the individual liberty of people wishing to cremate their loved ones before Texas’ current 48 hour waiting period ends.
