Bill Analysis

Summary: Current law allows children who are parents to give consent for their child’s immunization, but not for their own immunization. SB 63 would allow a child to consent to their own immunization if the child is pregnant or is a parent with actual custody of a child.

Analysis: Elsewhere this session we have opposed allowing minors to get immunizations without parental consent on the basis that doing so undermines the rights and responsibilities of a parent. However, if a child is pregnant or is a parent, that child also has parental rights which must be considered. Due to this conflict we are neutral on SB 63.
