Bill Analysis

Summary: SB 505 would exempt a person who measures or fits an orthosis under the supervision of a physician licensed and practicing under Subtitle B, Chapter 605, Occupations code from having to obtain a license. This exemption does not apply to a custom-fabricated device if its measuring and fitting requires substantial clinical judgement, as determined by the treating physician.

Analysis: We support SB 505 because it limits a licensing burden. This limits government and promotes free markets by reducing the amount of regulations that a person who measures or fits an orthosis has to comply with.
