Bill Analysis

Summary: Named driver auto insurance policies only insure the actual drivers named on the policy. SB 1567 would place additional regulations on named driver insurance policies by requiring oral and written disclosure to the insured that other people in the household are not insured to drive the insured vehicle(s).

Analysis: This bill would increase the regulations on voluntary private contracts. Both the insurance company and the policy holder are responsible for understanding the contract that is being agreed upon. Named driver policies are very clear because they specifically list the people covered by the policy. The state should not insert itself into the terms of private contracts.
