Bill Analysis

Summary: SB 1555 modifies the current requirements for state educator certification examinations by requiring the State Board of Educator Certification to determine a satisfactory level of completion and require a satisfactory level of completion in each subject area for a general certificate.

Analysis: This legislation would make administrative changes to the requirements for receiving a teaching certification. These changes may provide more accountability and increase the likelihood that teachers are better capable to teach their students. The new requirements, however, could also impose unneccessary barriers on teachers educating in the classroom by requiring satisfactory levels of completion that do not directly correlate with teacher's ability to teach in the classroom. Therefore, we are neutral on SB 1555.
