Bill Analysis

Summary: Under current law, certain criminal court documents are required to be transferred by certified mail, return receipt, fax, personal service, or hand delivery. HB 996 authorizes these documents to be sent via "secure electronic mail".

Analysis: Allowing court documents to be sent electronically expedites the process and could potentially save money. This removes an unnecessary prohibition on the method of transfer for the specified types of documents and may save taxpayers a modest amount of money over time. For these reasons, TPPA recommends voting yes on HB 996.
