Bill Caption

Relating to the carrying of concealed handguns on the campuses of and certain other locations associated with institutions of higher education.

Fiscal Notes

No significant fiscal implication to the State is anticipated. Local community college districts opting to allow individuals possessing valid CHLs to carry handguns on campus could experience increased costs related to campus police operations, security programs, and staff training. Adaptation of community college campus facilities to accommodate the storage of handguns could result in new costs for those community college districts.

Bill Analysis

Summary: Current state law prevents Concealed Handgun Permit (CHL) holders from carrying concealed firearms on the campus of public institutions of higher educations. HB 972 would allow (CHL) to carry their firearms on campus under certain circumstances.

Analysis: This legislation takes a step in the right direction by expanding liberty for CHL permit holders. We support this legislation.
