Bill Analysis

Summary: HB 382 would prohibit a state attorney from entering into a settlement agreement in a lawsuit against a government entity if the settlement is greater than or equal to $30,000 and the party seeking relief from the government entity must enter into a gag order.

Analysis: This legislation is intended to prevent the details of a settlement agreement in which a government entity will have to pay more than $30,000 from being confidential. HB 382 does not fall under our liberty principles. We remain neutral on HB 382.
