Bill Analysis

Summary: Under current law, Department of Public Safety employees are entitled to a public hearing regarding the discharge of the employee. HB 3805 removes this entitlement from all DPS employees excluding commissioned officers.

Analysis: HB 3805 aligns the DPS employee discharge practices with other government agencies whose employees are not entitled to a public hearing. This bill would make the law apply more evenly, rather than allowing a special circumstance for employees of one agency. Support 3805.
