Bill Analysis

Summary: This legislation would require the Department of Information Resources (DIR) to assess and report on Electronic Product Environmental Assessment Tool (EPEAT) statuses of computer equipment and inventory form vendors before purchase.

Analysis: This bill establishes a requirement on certain vendors to report, and in other areas requires disclosure information of otherwise proprietary information. This bill is essentially a way to push “green” computer purchases for the state and "green" elecronic systems for the state. This bill is bad for free markets and bad for limited government.
