Bill Analysis

Summary: Under current law, certain child victims have the right for the court to consider the impact of a continuance on them. HB 3671 extends this right to victims under the injury to a child section of the Penal Code (22.04). Additionally, this bill would grant these victims the right to a speedy trial consistent with the defendant's right to a fair trial.

Analysis: Long trials can negatively affect child victims. HB 3671 would help remedy this by allowing the impact of more child offenses to be considered regarding a continuance. TPPA recommends voting YES on HB 3671.
