Bill Analysis

Summary: This legislation would require a petition requesting traffic enforcement in certain areas be signed by 25% of property owners residing in the district.

Analysis: This bill is bracketed for Denton County. Currently the threshold for consideration of petitions regarding extension of traffic control services in special districts is 50%. This legislation seeks to cut in half the threshold that must be met before a petition can be considered by the county government. This is a local issue that does not fall under our liberty principles, although we would note that failure to reach the 50% threshold does not speak well of public support for the traffic enforcement petition. We are neutral on this legislation.
