Bill Analysis

Summary: Concerns have been raised over noncitizens voting illegally. HB 3170 seeks to address this by allowing a county election official to access a list of persons excused from jury duty based on citizenship.

Analysis: There are few things more sacred in our nation or our state than the right to vote. This individual liberty is diminished when voter fraud is perpetrated such as when ineligible voters cast ballots and when people vote multiple times. To the extent that HB 3170 may strengthen the integrity of voter registration lists, it would also strengthen the value of ballots cast by legitimate voters. We support this legislation.
