Bill Analysis

Summary: HB 3005 would allow the Texas Workforce Commission (TWC) to request a waiver from the United States Labor Secretary that would allow the TWC to use funding from the federal unemployment trust fund to hire new employees through demonstration projects.

Analysis: Related to state and federal interaction, HB 3005 would provide the state with the opportunity to participate as one of ten states eligible to request a waiver from the federal government to use unemployment funds to hire new employees. This will provide local control to the state and assist in helping individuals find employment. We support HB 3005.
