Bill Analysis

Summary: HB 2512 would allow the Secretary of State to obtain information from driver’s license applications and vehicle registration information in order to better verify voter registration rolls. This information does include social security numbers, which are already required for driver’s license applications. Citizens would not be required to divulge any more personal information than they already do.

Analysis: The state already has the personal information collected through the driver's license application and vehicle registration processes. This would not require collection of new data or divulging private data for marketing or other purposes. The information would be used to help ensure the accuracy of voter registration rolls. HB 2512 benefits individual liberty by reducing the opportunity for fraudulent voting, thereby strengthening the integrity and value of each legitimate vote.
