Bill Caption

Relating to requirements for open meetings held by videoconference call.

Fiscal Notes

No significant fiscal implication to the State is anticipated. Fiscal impact to local governments associated with the bill, if any, would be optional, and it assumed videoconferencing would only be implemented if sufficient funds were available.

Bill Analysis

Summary: HB 2414 allows government bodies to meet via videoconferencing, permitting the government to function more efficiently and at potentially at less cost. During these videoconference meetings, there would be a physical location where one staff member of the governmental body would be present and the public would be allowed to participate through the videoconference.

Analysis: HB 2414 permits more flexibility in hosting official government meetings while still ensuring that the meetings are open to the public. With society moving towards conducting meetings electronically, this legislation allows the government to function with more flexibility and efficiency, and may reduce costs in the long run. We support HB 2414.
