Bill Analysis

Summary: HB 217 would prohibit Texas public schools from selling sugary drinks or otherwise unhealthy drinks on school property.

Analysis Although it is within the scope of the state government to set things like course curriculum, testing requirements, and other big picture school system issues, this does not rise to that level. The state should not micromanage what types of food and drink may be served on school property. This is the type of decision best left to each individual school district. We oppose HB 217.
