Bill Analysis

Summary: Current Texas law makes murdering a judge a capital murder offense on account of their service or status. HB 1845 would extend this penalty enhancement to those convicted of murdering prosecuting attorneys and assistant prosecuting attorneys.

Analysis: HB 1845 elevates the penalty for murdering certain categories of civil servants above the penalty for murdering other people. This penalty enhancement neither uplifts nor offends our liberty principles.
