Bill Analysis

Summary: HB 1344 would allow the records of an individual arrested for an offense not under the Penal code to be expunged if community supervision is successfully completed, the individual does not commit another offense constituting a Class B misdemeanor or higher, and either a five or ten year period of time has elapsed depending on the offense. Additionally, this bill would require the individual to submit an ex parte petition to obtain expunction.

Analysis: HB 1344 would give individuals who have met certain requirements a second chance through expunction. This bill promotes personal responsibility by giving individuals who want to attone for their crimes an opportunity for a clean slate. We recommend voting YES on HB 1344.
