Bill Analysis

Summary: HB 1302 would prohibit a person registered as a sex offender who committed a sexually violent offense on a child under the age of 13 from employment in certain fields such as taxicab driver or limuosine driver. Additionally, HB 1302 would add life without parole to a conviction of a sexually violent offense if a defendant had previously committed a sexually violent offense.

Analysis: HB 1302 would prevent individuals who have committed specific violent sexual offenses from specific types of employment. Additionally, HB 1302 would keep offenders with multiple counts of violent sexual offenses in jail for life. This holds violent sexual offenders to an appropriate level of responsibility for their actions. We recommend voting yes on HB 1302.
