Bill Analysis

Summary: HB 1242 would require a judge to give a defendant written warning of the consequences of violating community supervision. Additionally, this bill would define the periods of confinement in a county jail for a community supervision violation.

Analysis: HB 1242 is based off of a practice by a Texas judge who strictly enforced periods of confinement for a community supervision violation. This reportedly reduced recidivism and reduced costs. This bill would take that practice statewide. We recommend voting YES on HB 1242.
